DIY Wedding- Part 3

Hey everyone!  First, I'd like to say thanks to you for all the positive comments you left about the Florida mantel!  Your feedback is just what I think I needed  and poking around the many great linky parties is getting me into the spirit of this fall season.  I even picked up a couple white pumpkins and striped mini pumpkins to start spicing up me interior spaces.  I will need to get in gear and spruce up my front entry too.    Before I do anymore fall decorating though, I want to share more of what Vicki and I did for Jessica's wedding.

Dancing it up

I think everything except the catering and cake was DIY.  Vicki, Jessica and I are all long distance from one another, so all the ideas, planning and execution was done through lots of emails, phone conversations, and texting.  Coordinating our ideas was challenging at times.  We worked on projects independently and a lot of the time just hoped for the best.

More chalkboard paint!

The last week before the wedding we were finally all together and worked in a frenzy to get the last details ironed out.  We had an assembly line going in Vicki's living room for many of the end projects.  Vicki's dining room turned into a wedding warehouse of sorts!

That's a lot of stuff!

We were a little worried about getting everything to the cottage. But after all the cars were packed, we hit the road with three van loads and two passengers in each.

Van #2, Driver: Mother of the Bride and Bride

Van #3, Driver: Godmother and brother of the bride

Like I mentioned in an earlier post, once we were at the site, it was all hands on deck.  Vicki and I put everyone to work. We all pulled together and we got the job done.   I would like to say it was  flawlessly executed!

After the final walk through before the ceremony, I was able to let out a huge sigh of relief.  I thought everything looked pretty perfect.  It was all I imagined and more.  Vicki and  I were able to thoroughly enjoy the ceremony and reception knowing we did our best. Jessica and Randy thought is was perfect, too.

Beautiful flowers everywhere

Favors were popcorn balls in memory of Grandma that past away last summer.
She was known for making THE BEST popcorn balls for her grandchildren.

Tables were dressed in chocolate, khaki, vintage china, ball jars for water with purple striped straws; and
the side of the tent was lined with photos of the bride and groom, growing up
and as a couple strung with twine by clothespins.

So, what about you?  Have you ever done a DIY wedding?
Exhausting and exhilarating?  I'd love to hear about it and see what you did.

Have a super weekend.

DIY Wedding Floral Spray

Hope you enjoyed Barb's post about the wedding flowers.

I was so nervous about the flowers for the wedding because I really didn't know what all those different flowers were going to look like together. Jessica's friend, Sarah, lives in Texas and was handling it all from there. She flew into Chicago on Wednesday, picked up the flowers and luckily spent the night at another of Jess' friend's home in Chicago. Then the next day, she was planning on spending 9 hours at the airport to wait for her other Texas friends who were flying in and then she could drive out to Michigan with everyone. But, the maid of honor, Amy, to the rescue! Amy lives on the east side of Indiana and drove into Chicago to pick up Sarah so she didn't have to sit at the airport all day. Thank goodness for friendship. This wedding really came together because of the work of friends.

Sarah brought in boxes and boxes of flowers. When I saw the hydrangeas, I was a little surprised! My last conversation with Jess was that there weren't going to be any because in September they were so expensive we couldn't really afford them. I knew she was disappointed, but no one had any extra money at that point to add to the budget.

When we saw them, Jess just beamed! I was so happy for her.

Sarah mentioned she bought a few deep blue stems for $16/stem,
then the rest were only $2 or $3/stem.

After seeing the flowers, Sarah showed us her secret weapon! FLORAL SPRAY!
Just For Flowers - floral spray
I turned my camera on multi-shot and got pics of the spraying and color transformation in action.
As Sarah begins to spray, you'll be able to see the transformation from photo to photo.

As she sprays, she sprays the bottom and even pulls the large stems apart to spray between the large stem.

This photo really shows the addition of the deep blue color.

You can really see the depth of the color here.

I love this photo because it shows a great action shot of the spray.

The depth of the color really comes into view here.

The transformation is amazing. What a great cost savings.

Can you tell which one is the "pricey" stem and which one is the "cost-effective" stem?

So Sarah went to work and sprayed all the light blue stems to match the beautiful Delphinium blue stems.
I hope you enjoyed this great DIY. I never knew there was such a thing as floral spray.

My hubby found a full can when we were cleaning up and past it onto to Barb.
I bet she'll do something amazing!
